World Cup Action! Botswana vs Mozambique

In a surprising turn of events, we attended a World Cup Soccer qualifying match here in Gaborone Botswana yesterday. It all started when we met a guy at our hotel on Friday night and while visiting with him, we discovered he was the coach of the Mozambique national team. His name was Martin Nhoy, and he is a dutchman. Anyway, we found out the big game was on Saturday afternoon at the national stadium here.
It was a blast! Total enthusiasm, especially by the Mozambiqees. The stadium was not real full, but the atmosphere was electric. The referee was from Senegal. We were some of the very few white people there, and despite our connection with the Moz coach, and having been there recently, we found ourselves rooting for Botswana. It was a close match, and Mozambique won by a score of 1-0.
Kind of a rare treat to be here when there was a big game. The pictures show some guys horsing around before the game to stir up the crowd. It worked.
